About carbon steel forgings

Carbon steel is an iron carbon alloy with a carbon content ranging from 0.0218% to 2.11%. Generally, carbon steel forgings also contain small amounts of silicon, manganese, sulfur, and phosphorus. The hardness and strength of the carbon steel would increase when the carbon content in the carbon steel goes higher. Meantime, the plasticity of the carbon steel would become lower. Carbon steel forgings are usually used to manufacture the metal parts that require high strength, high hardness and strong wear resistance, such as hydraulic cylinder tubes, shafts, nuts, etc. The hardness, strength wear resistance of the carbon steel forgings can be enhanced and increased after the heat treatment done to the carbon steel forged blanks. Usually, steel forgings manufacturers would do the heat treatment to increase the mechanical properties of the carbon steel forgings after the rough machining.

carbon steel grades

Abundant carbon steel materials are in our warehouse for carbon forged blanks manufacturing. We select quality carbon steel and a strict production process to ensure the high quality of the forged blanks. The most widely used carbon steel for part manufacturing is the medium carbon steel. For example, AISI 1045 steel in the USA, C45 steel in Germany, 1.0503 steel for the Europen market and 45 in China market.

Carbon steel classification

According to the carbon content in the carbon steel, carbon steel can be divided into three categories as below:

Low carbon steel medium carbon steel high carbon steel
≤0.25%
0.25%-0.6%
≥0.6%

Low carbon steel

When the carbon content is ≤ 0.25% in the steel, we classify the carbon steel as low-carbon steel ( or mild steel )

Medium carbon steel

When the carbon content is 0.25%-0.6% in the steel, we classify the carbon steel as medium carbon steel. Medium carbon steel forgings are mainly used to manufacture high-strength moving parts, such as:

High carbon steel

When the carbon content is ≥0.6% in the steel, we classify the carbon steel as high carbon steel

Our carbon steel forgings advantages:

  1. Our carbon rough machined forged blanks can manufacture more complex, precise, and larger parts, especially suitable for manufacturing high-quality mechanical and industrial components.
  2. Our carbon forgings have good mechanical properties and durability of materials, making them more resistant to fatigue and impact.
  3. Our forged blanks can greatly reduce your machining time and your machining cost, thereby improving production efficiency and reducing costs.
