Supply Fully customizable rough machined gear forging for gear manufacture
We supply quality gear forging (forged steel gear blanks) for gear manufacture.
We can use open-die forging or closed-die forging to produce the gear forgings for you. We can also manufacture and supply the forged steel gear forgings depending on the standard and your needs.
Common gear forging steel material
Low-alloy steel, brass, aluminum alloys, stainless steel, titanium, and some heat-resistant alloys are the popular raw material for gears manufacture.
Overall, steel is the most frequent material. Steel is frequently used because it combines a high strength-to-weight ratio, good wear resistance, the ability to improve physical qualities through heat treatment, and competitive pricing.
Gear forgings come in a variety of shapes and sizes. 40Cr, 42CrMo, 20CrMnMo, 20CrMnTi, and other materials are commonly utilized for gear forging. In the crane industry, 42CrMo and 40Cr forged gears are the most common steel for large-scale gear. 20CrMnMo and 20CrMnTi are commonly used in transmission machinery forging gears, primarily tiny parts.
The difference between 42CrMo and 40Cr
Because 42CrMo has better heat treatment hardenability, the toughness of 42CrMo is much better than that of 40Cr. When the hardness is the same, the strength of the two materials is very close. The tensile strength of 40Cr is 60~75kg/mm², and the yield strength is 35~55kg/mm². 42CrMo has a tensile strength of 110 kg/mm² and a yield strength of 95 kg/mm². Obviously, the mechanical properties of 42CrMo are much better than those of 40Cr. The performance of 42CrMo forged gears is better than that of 40Cr forged gears, especially the hardenability is higher than that of 40Cr steel gears. After quenching and tempering, the gear forgings of 42CrMo steel have high fatigue strength limit and multiple impact resistance, and have good low temperature impact toughness.
42CrMo Steel Chemical Elements and Mechanical Properties
In terms of material categorization, 42CrMo steel is an alloy structural steel with good mechanical properties and machinability. It is widely utilized as the gear forging steel.
